To Michael Steven, President
And the Board of Directors,
BC SPCA
My name is Sylvia Thomas and I am a Burnaby resident. I have 4 rescue dogs (3 from the SPCA) and one rescued hamster. Up until 8 years ago, I donated to the SPCA and was a dog walker for the Vancouver SPCA. I used to support you but now I do not. I have been paying close attention to the media reports and what other dog advocacy groups are saying. There has been alot of well-earned critisizm of the SPCA and its board.
A few weeks ago I received a phone call from a young man asking for a donation for the SPCA and he told me a few of the wonderful things that have been happening ie heated floors, more kennels etc. I told him, as I will tell you, that I think your are moving in the right direction but still have a long way to go before you earn my support again. I belive that you need to spend much more of the already donated money before you can ask us for more. He asked me what I thought need to to be done and for an example, I mentioned I want the SPCA to shut down and stop the puppymills. He said he did not know what a puppymill was so I explained a bit to him.
I forgot to ask him if he was a paid employee. Once again, the SPCA did not look good.
If you want to earn my support and my colleages and friends support again, I urge you to bring forward for discussion at the September 7th meeting of the Board of the BC SPCA these urgent matters:
Sylvia Thomas
